This expressive bar unites cacao from Soconusco, Chiapas with joven mezcal made in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, a town widely celebrated as the world capital of mezcal.
The mezcal is crafted from 100% Espadín agave, crushed by traditional stone tahona, fermented in oak vats, and double-distilled in clay pot stills. This ancestral production method preserves the spirit’s bright citrus, fresh herbal character, and earthy complexity.
Cuna de Piedra pairs the mezcal with its 73% Soconusco dark chocolate, allowing the fruit-forward cacao and vibrant spirit to complement one another without either becoming overpowering. The result is elegant and layered, with notes of roasted cacao, citrus peel, herbs, cooked agave, and a gently smoky finish.
This bar won Bronze at the 2023 International Chocolate Awards’ Mexican National Chocolate Competition. Entered as “73% Chiapas con Mezcal Joven,” it scored 85.5 points in the dark chocolate bars with an infusion or flavoring category.
A refined celebration of two deeply rooted Mexican traditions, brought together in one remarkably balanced bar.
