- Known for
- scented candles and glassware
Deming and Gant met at California College of the Arts and launched YIELD in late 2012 as an independent design house that both designs and manufactures its goods. Its first product was a picnic tote, and the range grew to bags, jewelry and housewares. In St. Augustine, where the studio settled, a local candlemaker poured YIELD candles into the company's custom glassware. YIELD's own site now sends shoppers to its sister brand Open Spaces, part of the Pattern family of brands.
YIELD questions
How should you burn a candle in a glass?
Trim the wick to a quarter inch before every burn, because a longer wick makes a tall, flaring flame and soot. Let each burn run until the top layer of wax has melted all the way across, since a short burn leaves some wax unmelted, but stop after about three hours. Put it out when about half an inch of wax remains, and never leave a lit candle unattended.
Is YIELD part of Open Spaces?
Yes. YIELD's website now reads "YIELD is now Open Spaces" and sends shoppers to that sister brand, part of Pattern, a company that also owns home brands such as Onsen towels and GIR kitchen tools. YIELD began as an independent design studio in San Francisco in 2012 and later settled in St. Augustine, Florida, where a local candlemaker poured its candles into YIELD's own custom glassware.
