Known for
Korean bulgogi and gochujang sauces, formerly We Rub You

Ann and Janet Chung are Korean American sisters, daughters of South Korean immigrants, raised in Texas and later settled in New York. They started the company in 2011 under the name We Rub You, first selling spicy pork sandwiches at a stand at Smorgasburg in Brooklyn, then bottling the marinade in 2012. The brand is now called We Love You.

The sauces descend from their grandmothers' recipes, and the sisters remember their mother's bulgogi sandwiches on supermarket white bread. The line covers Korean flavors such as bulgogi marinade for grilling and gochujang sauces that pair Korean chili paste heat with sweetness.

Marinate meat in a bulgogi sauce for a few hours before grilling, and use gochujang sauce on wings, rice bowls or fried eggs.

We Love You questions

What is gochujang?

Gochujang is a Korean chili paste made from red chili powder, sticky rice, fermented soybeans and salt, then left to ferment. As it ferments, the starch in the rice turns to sugar, so the paste ends up both sweet and spicy, with a deep savory flavor. We Love You builds its gochujang sauces on that sweet-and-hot balance.

What is bulgogi?

Bulgogi means "fire meat" in Korean: thin slices of beef, often sirloin or ribeye, marinated in soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil and garlic, then grilled or cooked on a hot griddle. Pork and chicken versions are common too. A bottled bulgogi marinade, like the ones We Love You makes from the Chung family's recipes, saves a home cook from mixing that marinade from scratch.
