certified organic estate olive oil

Nan McEvoy founded McEvoy Ranch in 1990 on a 550-acre former dairy farm in Petaluma, California. Inspired by her love of Tuscan olive oil, she imported 1,000 olive seedlings from Italy to plant on the ranch.

About 50 acres are planted as certified organic olive orchards. The ranch grows, harvests, mills and bottles its own extra virgin olive oil, and it also makes olive oil skin and body care, culinary products and small-lot wines.

Nan's son, Nion McEvoy, took over as owner and CEO in 2014, and his children are active in the family business.

McEvoy Ranch questions

What does extra virgin mean on olive oil?

Extra virgin is the top grade of olive oil. Under the International Olive Council trade standard it must be extracted from the fruit by mechanical or other physical means alone, without chemical solvents or refining, it can have no more than 0.8% free acidity, and tasters must find it fruity with no flavor defects. McEvoy Ranch makes its extra virgin oil from olives grown in its own Petaluma orchards.

What does estate grown mean for McEvoy Ranch olive oil?

Estate grown means the olives come from the producer's own land rather than from other farms. McEvoy Ranch grows its olives in about 50 acres of certified organic orchards in Petaluma, then mills and bottles the oil itself on the ranch. One family oversees the oil from the tree to the bottle.
