Les Anis de Flavigny has been making anise candy in the Abbey of Flavigny in Burgundy, France since 1591. A single anise seed is coated layer by layer in a flavored sugar shell over the course of 15 days, creating a candy that has remained essentially unchanged for over 400 years.

These are among the oldest continuously produced candies in the world. The process (15 days of sugar coating around a single anise seed) is almost absurdly patient by modern standards, and the result is a candy with a delicate crunch and a gentle, lingering anise flavor. The oval tins are iconic and collectible. Flavors include the original Anise, plus Violet, Rose, Mint, Lemon, and seasonal varieties.
