Known for
flavored potato chips

In 1991 Alain Glon set up a potato supply chain dedicated to chips, working with farmers around Pontivy in Brittany. The parent company, Altho, followed in 1995, along with the first Brets flavor, poulet braisé (braised chicken). It is still a family company: Glon's son-in-law Laurent Cavard took charge in 2009.

Flavor is the point of the brand, which calls itself the pioneer of flavored chips in France. In 2010 Brets switched its chips to 100 percent sunflower oil and cut the salt across its range, and in 2024 the company joined the Agri Éthique fair-trade label.

Since 2019 a methanizer at Pontivy has turned potato waste into gas, covering about 30 percent of the company's gas needs.

In Brittany, the peninsula in northwest France. The brand grew from a potato supply chain that Alain Glon built with farmers around Pontivy, a town in central Brittany, in 1991. What is the Agri Éthique label on Brets chips?

Agri Éthique is a French fair trade label, certified by an independent body, and Brets joined it in 2024. Under the label, farmers are paid a fair value for what they grow, at a price secured for the length of a contract, so they are less exposed to swings in the market.
