About Bianco DiNapoli
- Based in
- California
- Founded
- 2010
- Known for
- organic California canned tomatoes and sauces
Rob DiNapoli comes from a canning family. His grandfather Frank DiNapoli co-founded Sun Garden Packing Co. in San Jose, California, which packed tomatoes, peaches, apricots and asparagus, and Rob ran it from 1983 until the family sold the cannery in 2002. Chris Bianco is the chef behind Pizzeria Bianco. The two met in 2009 and made the brand official in the summer of 2010.
The tomatoes are grown organically by California farmers, without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and are vine-ripened and harvested in Northern California. The first retail can came out in 2012, and the brand's artwork is an original painting by Chris's father, Leonard Bianco.
Heat one of the sauces and toss it with pasta, or use it under eggs, meatballs or eggplant.
Bianco DiNapoli questions
Who is Chris Bianco?
Chris Bianco is a chef who grew up in New York and moved to Arizona, where he opened Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix in 1988. The restaurant made his name for pizza, and he now runs Pizzeria Bianco locations in Phoenix and Los Angeles along with Pane Bianco and Tratto.
How did Bianco DiNapoli tomatoes reach home cooks?
The first packs were for Chris Bianco's own kitchen. In 2011 his restaurant needed about 800 cases, but the company packed 2,400, and the extra went to other chefs who became early customers. The first retail can followed in 2012, and during the 2020 boom in home cooking the line grew to seven varieties.
